What is EWS (Economically Weaker Section)?

The government of India has taken a beneficial step for general category by approving the bill EWS(Economically Weaker Section) on 12th January 2019.EWS means Economically Weaker Section which is Sub-category in general category. This bill is for the people of general category who don’t belong to any reservation like ST/SC/OBC and having annual family income less than 8lakhs. Those comes under EWS(Economically Weaker Sections) will get 10% of reservation in education sector, civil posts and services in Government of India and other states jobs.

Basically for this 10% reservation of EWS applicant requires EWS certificate. EWS certificate is just like income certificate but not a caste certificate. Applicant has to follow the rules and regulations to avail the benefits of 10% reservation in higher education, civil services and govt. /state jobs

Eligibility for EWS CERTIFICATE

These basic rules to be followed by the applicant for the eligibility of EWS certificate are:-

  • Annual Family Income should be less than 8lakhs. All earning sources are included like business, house rents, salary, agricultural, professional etc.
    Annual family income can be calculated as whole family earnings per year. It will include family income as:-
  1. Applicant’s income.
  2. Applicant parent’s income.
  3. Applicant spouse’s income.
  4. Applicant house rent or unmarried child’s income.
  • Property and Plots shouldn’t be more than the limits mentioned below: –
  1. Residential plots below 100 yards in notified municipalities.
  2. Residential plots below 200 yards which doesn’t come under specified municipalities.
  3. Agricultural land below 5 acres.
  4. Residential flat area shouldn’t be above 1000 square feet.
  • Family Property in different locations and cities are also included while calculating property and land.

Here “Family “means the applicant who is applying for the benefits of the reservation, applicant’s parents and applicant’s siblings below 18 years.

EWS application form can be collected both online and offline. For online applicants have to visit the official website follow the instructions and download the form. Then applicant can take the print out of the form, fill the asked details with enclosed documents required and submit it to authorised office. In case of offline applicant have to visit authorised office and can collect the application form. The format of the application form is the same for the entire country and can get this application form for free in any departmental office.

Methodology to apply for EWS certificate applications form

EWS certificate issuing AUTHORITIES

EWS certificate is issued by various identified authorities in all the states. There are some official authorities listed below: –
  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector /Deputy Commissioners/Additional Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Executive Magistrate.
  • Chief Presidency/Additional Chief Presidency/Presidency Magistrate.
  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tasildar, Sub-Divisional Officer etc.

The application form fee depends on the state government or the issuing authority which the applicant has to pay while submitting the application form. This application form fee can be varying in all the states.

EWS reservation different from OBC reservation

Some candidates might get confused between EWS reservation and OBC reservation. EWS reservation is different from OBC reservation.
